On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, the second multiplier event of the European Erasmus + project "COMPASS - COMPETENCES for Agencies for Sustainable Site Conversion" took place in the basement of the Generator Hostel in Berlin-Mitte. The event was organized by Europanorat GmbH, a Berlin-based educational institution that specializes in EU projects and is a company of the Grone-Schule foundation in Hamburg. In total, institutions from 5 European countries are involved in this project.
In addition to Germany in the form of Europanorat, the project partners come from Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
More than 40 guests from the Berlin district offices, the large universities in Berlin, Stuttgart and even Vienna, employees from other educational institutions, independent city and regional planners as well as company consultants, representatives from interim use agencies, cultural institutions, real estate agencies as well as neighborhood management and neighborhood initiatives came together on this day, in order to get to the bottom of the topic of sustainability in the urban space.
The aim of the COMPASS project is the promotion of participatory and ecological transformation processes throughout Europe, taking advantage of the potential offered by unemployed young academics from the fields of architecture, geography, landscape ecology, etc. across Europe. The core of the project is the creation of a new profession - the so-called "consultant for sustainable conversion". For this purpose, the project has developed an innovative pilot course.
In the morning, the twelve-person team of experts from five EU countries presented the project; the curriculum celebrated premiere and short films on European showcase conversion projects were shown. The afternoon focused on Berlin and two highly actual case studies in the middle of the urban gardening project “Mauergarten” and the “Alte Münze” (Old Mint) which is currently used as an event location. Finally, experts from project-related areas discussed the question whether the transformation of cities offers a realistic potential for the creation of new jobs in this area.
The third and final multiplier event of the COMPASS project is taking place in Rome, Italy on 16.06.2017.
